• I know the revised words don't quite fit the meter.  But they do make more of a point than the original ones.
• The fiftieth instalment of a comic strip is (at least to me) a sort of coming-of-age moment for the project, so it seemed appropriate that the occasion should be marked by gathering nearly all of the cast together in a single panel and having them singing.  How convenient that it should fall on the day before Christmas Eve.
